Demarcated region of the Vinho Verde (Green Wine)
The Vinho Verde is unique in the world. A naturally light and fresh wine, produced in the demarcated region of Vinho Verde in northwestern Portugal, a coastal region geographically well located to produce excellent white wines. With low alcohol content, and therefore less caloric, Vinho Verde is a fruity wine, easy to drink, great as an aperitif and easy to reconcile with light and balanced meals: starters, salads, fish, seafood, white meats, tapas, sushi, sashimi and other international dishes. The unique quality and originality of these wines is the result, on one hand, of the characteristics of the soil and climate of the Vinho Verde Region, and, secondly, of the peculiarities of the region's indigenous grape varieties and ways of cultivation of the vine. These factors result in a naturally light and fresh wine, different from other wines in the world. The current demarcated region of Vinho Verde extends across the northwest of the country, in the area traditionally known as Entre-Douro-e-Minho. It is limited to the north by the Minho River (border with Galicia), to the east and south by mountainous areas that build the natural separation between the Atlantic Entre-Douro-e-Minho and the more interior areas of the country with more Mediterranean features, and finally by the Atlantic Ocean which is its western limit. Routes of the Vinho Verde The stunning beauty of the Minho region serves as a backdrop to the Route of the Vinho Verde, and invites to the wine tourism, the rural tourism and the agritourism. To browse these paths is to discover the origins and flavors of ancient wine culture and to dive deep into the history of Portugal, three routes proposed for an unforgettable holiday in nature. |
